Economic Management and Transition Towards a Market Economy High quality books Economic Management and Transition Towards a Market Economy By:Anthony T.H. Chin Published on 1996 by World Scientific Much attention has been focused in recent years on the transformation of the economies of Eastern and Central Europe and the former Soviet Union. However, a growing demand for policy advice, technical assistance and expertise is also coming from Asian reforming countries such as China, Mongolia, Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. In addition, business communities abroad are increasingly interested in exploring investment and marketing opportunities in these reforming countries. The International Adjustment Mechanism High quality books The International Adjustment Mechanism By:L. Gomes Published on 1993-07-20 by Springer This book is about the history of thought and policy on the international adjustment mechanism. Economics emerged as a discipline in its own right largely out of the accumulated reflections, analyses and judgements of a group of writers from the sixteenth to the early nineteenth century who shared a common perspective on matters relating to the adjustment of the balance of payments. The present survey starts with the development of the doctrine at that time and continues the story up to the present debate on economic and monetary union in Europe. Financial Markets and Monetary Policy High quality books Financial Markets and Monetary Policy By:Jeffrey A. Frankel,Benjamin Frankel Published on 1995 by MIT Press In this second collection of his writings on financial markets (the first, On Exchange Rates, covered international finance), Jeffrey Frankel turns his attention to domestic markets, with special attention to how national monetary policy is handled. The decade of the 1980s left many central bankers disillusioned with monetarism, so that the question of the optimal nominal anchor remains an open one. In this second collection of his writings on financial markets (the first, On Exchange Rates, covered international finance), Jeffrey Frankel turns his attention to domestic markets, with special attention to how national monetary policy is handled. The fifteen papers are divided into three sections, each introduced by the author. They cover, respectively, optimal portfolio diversification, indicators of expected inflation, and

The Evolution of Monetary Policy and Banking in the US High quality books The Evolution of Monetary Policy and Banking in the US By:Donald D. Hester Published on 2008-03-30 by Springer Science & Business Media A concise analysis of the evolution of monetary policy and banking institutions over the past sixty years that stresses the dynamic interactions between the Federal Reserve and banking institutions that resulted from financial market innovations. Institutions were influenced by increasing competition in markets and monetary policies. The book consists of two parts, which are organized chronologically. The first has chapters that correspond with terms of chairmen of the Federal Reserve Board. It critically analyzes decisions taken by the Federal Open Market Committee in each period and argues that innovations forced changes in the design and conduct of monetary policy. The second part analyzes how banking institutions evolved from a very conservative and regulated system in 19

Stock Market Liquidity and the Macroeconomy: Evidence from Japan High quality books Stock Market Liquidity and the Macroeconomy: Evidence from Japan By:Woon Gyu Choi,David Cook Published on 2005-01-01 by International Monetary Fund In a liquid financial market, investors are able to sell large blocks of assets without substantially changing the price. We document a steep drop in the liquidity of the Japanese stock market in the post-bubble period and a steep rise in liquidity risk. We find that, during Japan's deflationary period, firms with more liquid balance sheets were less exposed to stock market liquidity risk, while slowly growing firms were highly exposed to liquidity shocks. Also, aggregate liquidity had macroeconomic effects on aggregate demand through its effect on money demand. This Book was ranked at 14 by Google Books for keyword Monetary base. Paper Money Collapse High quality books Paper Money Collapse By:Detlev S. Schlichter Published on 2014-06-27 by John Wiley & Sons Explore the inevitable collapse of the fiat monetary system Paper Money Collapse: The Folly of Elastic Money, Second Edition challenges the mainstream consensus on money and monetary policy. While it is today generally believed that the transition from 'hard' and inflexible commodity money (such as a gold standard) to entirely flexible and potentially unlimited fiat money under national central banks allows for superior economic stability, Paper Money Collapse shows that the opposite is true. Systems of highly elastic and constantly expanding money are not only unnecessary, even for growing economies, they are always extremely destabilizing. Over time, they must lead to substantial imbalances, including excessive levels of debt and distorted asset prices, that will require ever faster money production to sustain. Ultimately, however, there is no

Reform of the International Monetary System and Internationalization of the Renminbi High quality books Reform of the International Monetary System and Internationalization of the Renminbi By:Ruogu Li Published on 2015-11-09 by World Scientific |This book argues that only by reforming the international monetary system can we prevent financial crises in the future and the internationalization of the Renminbi, China's national currency, will be an important step in the process. Just as the old saying goes, |An old building needs to be demolished before a new one can be erected in its place,| there will be no construction without destruction. The commencement of the dismantling of the old monetary system is also the beginning of the construction of the new one. Contrary to Western rhetoric, which portrays China as part of the cause of the recent financial crisis, the author contends that China is actually a victim of the current unjust international economic and monetary system. Review Establishing Monetary Stability in Emerging Market Economies

Image
Establishing Monetary Stability in Emerging Market Economies High quality books Establishing Monetary Stability in Emerging Market Economies By:Thomas D. Willett Published on 2019-06-07 by Routledge There has been fierce debate about the optimal sequencing of economic reforms in emerging market economies. Many economists argue that for market-oriented systems to operate effectively, a reasonable degree of monetary stability is necessary. Rampant inflation, a common challenge for emerging economies, greatly reduces the chances that market-oriented reforms will be successful. In this comprehensive volume, a group of policy-oriented economists from North America, Europe, and the former Soviet Union explore the causes of monetary instability in reforming economies and evaluate alternative institutional mechanisms designed to reduce inflationary pressures. Considering the latest theoretical and empirical research-as well as the experiences of former Communist countries, including Russia and
